Organic Alfalfa

Why Should Pregnant And Breastfeeding Women Take Organic Alfalfa?

Alfalfa is an herbal powerhouse used medically and nutritionally around the globe. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers will find organic alfalfa especially beneficial for many reasons.

During pregnancy, alfalfa serves many purposes. In the first trimester, alfalfa leaf tea can be sipped through the day to help with digestion. It will help stabilise blood sugar, especially when taken with manganese, which will help to prevent morning sickness.

Later on in pregnancy, it can be taken to prevent oedema and urinary problems. Constipation is a common complaint in the third trimester. Drinking the tea through the day will help keep mums regular because of both the mild laxative properties of alfalfa and by staying well hydrated. Additionally, relaxin (one of the hormones involved in pregnancy) can cause the oesophageal sphincter to relax. Taking alfalfa will neutralise excess acids in the stomach, helping to prevent heartburn (gastric reflux).

Some women experience skin rashes during pregnancy if their liver function is unable to keep up with the demands created by the increased blood volume. Organic alfalfa is known to be an effective blood and liver purifier and can help prevent this.

The bioflavinoid count in alfafa is very high and will help keep the amnion (the membrane holding the baby and amniotic fluid) strong, preventing premature rupture and premature labour. Alfalfa is a very rich natural source of K, an essential vitamin used by the body to prevent haemorrhaging during and after labour. It is also high in calcium, something that is said to help ease discomfort in labour.

After the baby’'s birth, don’t stop taking organic alfalfa. It is a very powerful galactagogue, a substance to help boost milk production. It also contains a lot of chlorophyll, a substance chemically similar to hemoglobin. This will help prevent anemia, even after moderate blood loss during birth.
